William Watson Jnr.
British fl.1866-72 d.921
William Watson Jnr was a late 19thcentury Liverpool painter of animals and landscapes. A pupil of
Landseer and Bonheur, and son of W Watson Snr. he painted mainly highland landscapes with sheep and highland cattle on rugged mountains, with the mist swirling down the glens. The rich Victorian patrons commissioned artists to paint these scenes to adorn their newly built villas and country estates over the border.
William Watson Jnr. exhibited in London 1866-1872, at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street. His works can be found in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the Mappin Art Gallery, Sheffield, Sunderland Art Gallery and the Thomas B. Art Collection, Minneapolis.
