William H. Ward
British fl.1850-1882

William Ward was one of a group of artists influenced by the work of W Henry Hunt, painting small highly detailed still-lifes of fruit, flowers and bird nests. Inspired by  the Pre-Raphaelites, with their love of nature, attention to detail and fine brushwork quality, Ward is one of the finest amongst his peers.  His exquisite studies of fruit, flowers and bird nests on mossy banks are almost faultless, with every twig entwined in the nest, the dew-drops on the fruit and the veins on the leaves all beautifully executed.

A Birmingham artist, Ward was a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and also exhibited in London at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and Suffolk Street.
