Albert Joseph Franke
German 1845-1889

Albert Joseph Franke was born in Breslau in 1860, later living and working in Munich, he was one of a number of artists of the period specialising in eighteenth century scenes.  Following the genre of the French master Meissonier and combing brilliant technique, with richly coloured figures in period costume, he painted works of outstanding quality and precision.

The fascination of the period brought commercial success to these artists, who portrayed readers, philosophers, card players, gentlemen drinking and enjoying the fine things in life.  The new rich looked back in admiration and nostalgia to a society in which the aristocrat held sway – taste, elegance and luxury were the keynotes of these flawlessly executed scenes.

Exhibiting in France and Germany, Albert Joseph Franke’s works can be found in the “Musee Simu’ in Bucarest.
